1.1 Community Care Visits Certificate

Certification on proper community care visits with patients who are not in the hospital and have moved over to community care.

1.2 Home Health Time Limited Nursing

While working in home health you are only allotted a certain amount of time with each patient. This course allows you to learn ways to improve time management in this time-limited setting.

1.3 Performing De-escalation Strategies

Learned about de-escalation strategies in a clinical setting.

1.4 Respond to the Risk: Determine When and How to Get Help Certificate

This was a follow-up from the course above and just went over how to get help when it is needed.

1.5 Report and Communicate Post-Incident

This course went over how we are supposed to handle an incident that may occur in a clinical setting, such as a medication error, etc.

Appendix 2 – Teamwork and Leadership

2.1 OHS for Leaders: Implement Controls – Prevention Activities

A certification course on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) for Leaders, focusing on implementing controls and prevention activities, would cover several key areas to ensure leaders can effectively manage workplace safety.

2.2 Diversity and Inclusion Education: Unconscious Bias – Managing the Impact of Our Biases

Went over biases that we may encounter within our workplace as well as how to identify them and work through them safely and productively.

2.3 Diversity and Inclusion Education: Foundation of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Workplace

Went over our understanding of EDI concepts, historical and social contexts, bias, and privilege, creating inclusivity in the workplace, and any other legal and ethical.

2.4 CHSC Code White Station Responder Training

This course taught us how to perform a code white, which is something we will call when a combative patient has gotten out of hand and needs further support for our safety. We are also taught in this course about restraints and how to safely use them and when to use them.

Appendix 3 – Information Gathering and Organization

3.1 Privacy and Security Training

This course is important to have as a nurse as keeping your patient’s information as confidential as possible is our utmost importance when working in the hospital. We also learned about different scenarios that can result in security issues and how to go about fixing them.

3.2 Home Health: MRC and CCCP Meditech Documentation

Course certification on how to properly document as a nurse in a home health care setting.

3.3 Introduction to Critical Care Flowsheet

Went over how to properly use a critical care flow sheet.

3.4 Recognize Risks and Behaviors

This course went over how we can recognize certain behaviours within a clinical setting that may progress to violent behaviour and what risks follow said behaviours.

Appendix 4 – Problem Solving/ Decision-Making

4.1 Complete Point of Care Risk Assessment

This course went over how to complete a point-of-care risk assessment on our patients within a clinical setting.

4.2 Overdose Prevention

This course increased my knowledge of how to assist in the prevention of overdoses.

4.3 Harm Reduction 101 Understanding Harm Reduction Principles and Practices

The title of this course explains itself. We went over harm reduction tools and learned about the different principles and practices that go into harm reduction in the workplace.

Appendix 5 – Numeracy

5.1 Intro to the Transfusion Administration Record

This course gave us an introduction to how to properly record transfusion administration via IV infusion.

5.2 Biological Agents 2

This certification course went over handling biological agents and covered a range of topics to ensure safety and compliance in environments where biohazardous materials are present.

5.3 Insulin Safety Competency

This course went over the dangers and risks that come with handling insulin and how we can promote the safe usage of this medication.

5.4 Medication Reconciliation

course for medication reconciliation focuses on ensuring healthcare professionals can accurately and safely manage patients’ medications across different care settings.

5.5 Medication Management

Certification course for medication management focuses on equipping healthcare professionals with the skills and knowledge to optimize medication use and improve patient outcomes. Things we went over were pharmacology and therapeutics, patient assessment, patient education on different medications and how to document this.

Appendix 6 – Critical and Creative Thinking

6.1 Aboriginal Cultural Safety

Learned how to properly communicate with the Aboriginal population that we work with extensively at the hospital. Helped to broaden my understanding of their culture and how to respect that culture as best I can when working with them.

6.2 The Aboriginal Landscape

This course continued to expand my knowledge of the Aboriginal community.

6.3 Differing Perspectives on Health and Wellness Through a Cultural Lens

This course went over potential biases that we may have come into nursing with and how to look at all different perspectives when it comes to different cultures we may encounter within a clinical setting.

6.4 Colonization as a Social Determinant of Health

Certification on these different ways colonization has caused such a significant determinant to a vast population, and how they access the health care options that are out there.

Appendix 7 – Independent Learning and Intellectual Maturity

7.1 Scope of Practice for Nurses in Wound Care

Went over what wounds we are allowed to care for and when to seek further support from other care staff.

7.2 How Wounds Heal

This course went over a detailed explanation of the process of wound healing.

7.3 Negative Pressure Wound Therapy.

Went over what NPWT is, why we use it, how to use and set up the machinery that is required for these types of wounds, etc.

7.4 Care of Wounds with Non-Visible Wound Bed

Certification on wounds that go beyond the wound bed such as tunneling wounds. These wounds require specialty care, and this course helped me to identify what to do when faced with a wound such as this.

7.5 Occupational Health and Safety Training

In this course we went over the fundamentals of OHS, legislation and regulations, hazard identification and risk assessments, emergency preparedness and response, incident investigation and reporting, ergonomics in the workplace, occupational hygiene, as well as training and communication that comes with this.

Appendix 8 – Applied Knowledge and Skills

8.1 Specialty Slings

How to properly use different slings such as such as wire rope slings, synthetic web slings, alloy chain slings, and synthetic round slings. We also went over specific applications and the advantages of each type.

8.2 CPI Blue Card

Taught how to protect yourself in dangerous situations between yourself and patients in a workplace setting. We talked about ways to approve combative patients and de-escalation techniques.

8.3 Mental Health 101

This course went over the basics of working with patients with mental health issues and how we as nurses can better support these patients in a clinical setting.

8.4 Infusion Therapy Self-Study

This course did not give a certificate and was done in my own time, as I find knowledge is wealth, and felt that learning further about infusion therapy.

8.5 Adult Peripheral IV Insertion

Competency training on how to properly insert an IV in adult patients.
