Through this training, I developed greater cultural competency, enhanced my communication strategies, and learned how to create supportive environments for both patients and colleagues. The course emphasized the importance of recognizing systemic barriers, advocating for equitable treatment, and promoting effective collaboration within diverse healthcare teams.
1.3 Performing De-escalation Strategies Certificate – March 2021
This certificate course focused on de-escalation strategies within a clinical setting, providing practical techniques for managing tense or volatile situations with professionalism, empathy, and composure. I learned how to recognize early signs of distress, use calm and clear verbal communication, and apply active listening skills to help diffuse potential conflicts. The training also emphasized the importance of non-verbal communication, emotional self-regulation, and implementing strategies that prioritize the safety and well-being of both patients and healthcare staff.
1.4 Report and Communicate Post-Incident Certificate – March 2021
This course went over how I am supposed to handle an incident that may occur in a clinical setting, such as a medication error, etc. This improved my ability to document and convey critical information clearly and professionally as well as helped to strengthen my written and verbal communication skills for accurate incident reports, ensuring clarity, factual precision, and adherence to legal and ethical guidelines. The training also covers effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams to provide transparency and maintain trust.
Appendix 2 – Teamwork and Leadership
2.1 OHS for Leaders: Implement Controls – Prevention Activities Certificate – February 2022
A certification course on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) for Leaders, focusing on implementing controls and prevention activities, that covered several key areas to ensure that as a leader I can effectively manage workplace safety. This course equipped me with the ability to identify and mitigate risks, communicate safety protocols effectively, and collaborate with healthcare teams to create a secure environment. The training emphasizes leadership in decision-making, accountability in safety measures, and the ability to guide colleagues in implementing preventive strategies.
2.2 4H – 2015 to PRESENT
I participated in 4H throughout the past 10 years, where I was appointed safety officer. I helped set up and run fundraising booths, clinics for horses and cattle, as well as present a safety presentation at each meeting.
2.3 Information Booklet for Student Nurses – 2022
While working at the hospital, I was lucky enough to work alongside lots of nursing students that I got to help mentor over the years. Over the years I started to collect forms and documents to help aid in the students learning and in turn hopefully make the better nurses for it.
2.4 CHSC Code White Station Responder Training Certificate – March 2021
This course provided training on how to effectively respond to a Code White situation, which involves managing combative or aggressive patients who pose a risk to themselves or others and require additional support to ensure everyone’s safety. I also learned about the appropriate use of restraints, including when their use is warranted and how to apply them safely and ethically in accordance with clinical guidelines and patient rights.
Appendix 3 – Information Gathering and Organization
3.1 Shift Report Template – 2023
I developed this comprehensive shift report template specifically for my fellow nurses with the goal of making the process of receiving and giving report during shift changes smoother, more organized, and less stressful, ultimately promoting clearer communication and continuity of patient care.
3.2 Home Health: MRC and CCCP Meditech Documentation Certificate – January 2023
This course certification focused on proper documentation practices for nurses working in a home healthcare setting. It helped me refine my skills in accurate data collection, structured record-keeping, and efficient documentation processes essential for delivering high-quality patient care. I gained a deeper understanding of how to effectively navigate the Meditech system, ensuring that patient information is recorded in a clear, systematic, and accessible manner to support coordinated care. Additionally, the course enhanced my ability to organize clinical notes, monitor patient progress, and maintain compliance with professional and regulatory healthcare standards.
3.3 Introduction to Critical Care Flowsheet Certificate – May 2021
This course provided comprehensive training on the proper use of critical care flow sheets, which are essential tools in high-acuity healthcare settings. I learned how to structure my documentation more effectively by accurately recording vital signs, clinical interventions, and patient progress using standardized formats. This training enhanced my ability to organize complex patient data clearly and efficiently, allowing for better tracking of clinical trends and supporting timely, informed decision-making in critical care environments.
3.4 PowerPoint Presentation: Intergenerational Trauma in Indigenous Culture – 2024
I created a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation for my hospital unit to educate staff about intergenerational trauma in Indigenous culture. This required extensive research from credible academic and cultural sources to ensure the information was accurate, respectful, and relevant to healthcare professionals. I organized complex historical and cultural concepts into clear, structured slides that were easy to understand while still maintaining depth and sensitivity. This process demonstrates my ability to gather essential information from multiple sources, synthesize it into meaningful content, and present it in an organized manner that promotes learning and cultural awareness among colleagues.
Appendix 4 – Problem Solving/ Decision-Making
4.1 Complete Point of Care Risk Assessment Certificate – March 2021
This course went over how to complete a point-of-care risk assessment on my patients within a clinical setting. It helped to improve my problem-solving and decision-making skills by teaching me how to quickly evaluate potential hazards and make informed care adjustments in real time. Appendix 5 – Numeracy

This course gave me an introduction to how to properly record transfusion administration via IV infusion. This course improved my numeracy abilities by strengthening my skills in calculating, documenting, and verifying transfusion-related data. It also helped to enhance my accuracy in measuring blood volumes, monitoring infusion rates, and interpreting lab values to ensure safe administration.
5.2 Budget for Family Member – 2022
I created a budget for a family member by carefully reviewing all of their monthly expenses. Based on my analysis, I developed a plan that helps them manage their money more effectively and set aside savings each month
5.3 Patient Teaching Brochure – 2023
Creating a patient-focused brochure on insulin dosages and blood sugar management is a clear demonstration of applied numeracy in a healthcare setting. This project required me to interpret clinical data, simplify mathematical concepts, and communicate numerical information in a digestible and practical way. From calculating dosage ranges based on blood glucose levels to explaining ratios, time-based insulin responses, and correction factors, I applied my numeracy skills with precision and care. I also made critical decisions about how to visually represent data—such as charts and numeric examples—to enhance patient understanding and adherence. This initiative reflects not only my technical proficiency with numbers but also my ability to translate complex healthcare metrics into empowering tools for patients. From conceptualizing the site layout to curating content with clarity and coherence, I independently navigated technical, analytical, and creative challenges. This process required me to evaluate the relevance of each piece of evidence, synthesize diverse experiences into a unified narrative, and adapt my messaging for an academic audience—skills crucial to healthcare leadership and management. Developing the website demonstrated my ability to take ownership of my educational journey, leverage digital platforms for professional communication, and engage critically with my own experiential learning. 7.2 How Wounds Heal Certificate – February 2021
This course provided me with a detailed understanding of the wound healing process. I chose to complete it on my own time because I find wound care particularly interesting and valuable to my nursing practice.
7.3 Negative Pressure Wound Therapy Certificate – February 2021
In this course, I learned about Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT), including its purpose, how to properly use and set up the necessary equipment, and best practices for managing wounds that require this treatment. Although the course is not mandatory, I believe it is essential for all LPNs to take. Completing this training has enabled me to confidently manage more complex wounds and assist fellow nurses on the unit who have not yet received this specialized education.
7.4 Care of Wounds with Non-Visible Wound Bed Certificate – August 2020
This certification focused on managing complex wounds that extend beyond the wound bed, such as tunneling wounds. These types of wounds require specialized care, and the course equipped me with the knowledge and skills to properly assess and treat them when encountered in practice.
Appendix 8 – Applied Knowledge and Skills
8.1 Overdose Prevention Certificate – January 2023
This course increased my knowledge of how to assist in the prevention of overdoses. This improved my problem-solving and decision-making skills by equipping me with the ability to recognize overdose risks, respond effectively in crisis situations, and administer life-saving interventions. This course also helped to strengthen my critical thinking by teaching rapid assessment of symptoms, appropriate use of reversal agents like naloxone, and communication strategies for guiding patients and families through prevention efforts.
8.2 Gymkhana – 2015 to PRESENT
Through my extensive involvement in gymkhana and horseback riding, I have developed critical applied knowledge that translates directly into the foundational competencies required for healthcare leadership and management. Navigating high-pressure competition environments has sharpened my strategic thinking, adaptability, and decision-making — skills crucial for managing complex patient care settings.
