This certificate enhanced my communication skills by fostering patient-centered interactions, interdisciplinary collaboration, and cultural competency. It equipped me with active listening techniques, empathy, and professionalism to build trust with patients and work effectively with healthcare teams. The training also strengthens conflict resolution, documentation, and reporting skills, ensuring clear and accurate communication in diverse care settings.
1.2 Home Health Time Limited Nursing Certificate
This course helped prepare me for patient-centered care in diverse home environments. It strengthened my active listening and adaptability skills, allowing me to effectively address patient concerns and build trust in a timely manner. The training emphasizes clear verbal and written communication for accurate documentation, patient education, and coordination with healthcare teams. Additionally, it develops cultural competency and professionalism, helping LPNs navigate sensitive situations, support families, and advocate for patient needs within home-based care settings.
1.3 Performing De-escalation Strategies Certificate
This certificate course focused on de-escalation strategies within a clinical setting, providing practical techniques for managing tense or volatile situations with professionalism, empathy, and composure. I learned how to recognize early signs of distress, use calm and clear verbal communication, and apply active listening skills to help diffuse potential conflicts. The training also emphasized the importance of non-verbal communication, emotional self-regulation, and implementing strategies that prioritize the safety and well-being of both patients and healthcare staff.
1.4 Report and Communicate Post-Incident Certificate
This course went over how I am supposed to handle an incident that may occur in a clinical setting, such as a medication error, etc. This improved my ability to document and convey critical information clearly and professionally as well as helped to strengthen my written and verbal communication skills for accurate incident reports, ensuring clarity, factual precision, and adherence to legal and ethical guidelines. The training also covers effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams to provide transparency and maintain trust.
Appendix 2 – Teamwork and Leadership
2.1 OHS for Leaders: Implement Controls – Prevention Activities Certificate
A certification course on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) for Leaders, focusing on implementing controls and prevention activities, that covered several key areas to ensure that as a leader I can effectively manage workplace safety. This course equipped me with the ability to identify and mitigate risks, communicate safety protocols effectively, and collaborate with healthcare teams to create a secure environment. The training emphasizes leadership in decision-making, accountability in safety measures, and the ability to guide colleagues in implementing preventive strategies.
2.2 Diversity and Inclusion Education: Unconscious Bias – Managing the Impact of Our Biases Certificate
This course addressed the various biases that may arise within the workplace and provided guidance on how to identify, navigate, and address them in a safe and constructive manner. I gained a deeper understanding of implicit bias and its impact on patient care and team dynamics. By learning how to recognize and mitigate these biases, I have improved my ability to engage in more respectful, inclusive, and effective interactions with both patients and colleagues. 2.4 CHSC Code White Station Responder Training Certificate
This course provided training on how to effectively respond to a Code White situation, which involves managing combative or aggressive patients who pose a risk to themselves or others and require additional support to ensure everyone’s safety. I also learned about the appropriate use of restraints, including when their use is warranted and how to apply them safely and ethically in accordance with clinical guidelines and patient rights.
Appendix 3 – Information Gathering and Organization
3.1 Privacy and Security Training Certificate
This course is essential for nurses, as it emphasizes the critical importance of maintaining patient confidentiality and protecting sensitive information within the hospital setting. I examined real-life scenarios that could lead to potential security breaches and learned how to respond appropriately to prevent and resolve these issues. The training reinforced the ethical and legal responsibilities of safeguarding patient data, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations, and promoting a secure and trustworthy healthcare environment.
3.2 Home Health: MRC and CCCP Meditech Documentation Certificate
This course certification focused on proper documentation practices for nurses working in a home healthcare setting. It helped me refine my skills in accurate data collection, structured record-keeping, and efficient documentation processes essential for delivering high-quality patient care. I gained a deeper understanding of how to effectively navigate the Meditech system, ensuring that patient information is recorded in a clear, systematic, and accessible manner to support coordinated care. Additionally, the course enhanced my ability to organize clinical notes, monitor patient progress, and maintain compliance with professional and regulatory healthcare standards.
3.3 Introduction to Critical Care Flowsheet Certificate
This course provided comprehensive training on the proper use of critical care flow sheets, which are essential tools in high-acuity healthcare settings. I learned how to structure my documentation more effectively by accurately recording vital signs, clinical interventions, and patient progress using standardized formats. This training enhanced my ability to organize complex patient data clearly and efficiently, allowing for better tracking of clinical trends and supporting timely, informed decision-making in critical care environments.
3.4 Recognize Risks and Behaviours Certificate
This course went over how I can recognize certain behaviours within a clinical setting that may progress to violent behaviour and what risks follow said behaviours. It improved my ability to assess, document, and respond to potential safety concerns in a healthcare settings. Not only did it strengthen my skills in identifying behavioural patterns, it also helped me to recognize early warning signs of distress or escalation, and applying appropriate interventions.
Appendix 4 – Problem Solving/ Decision-Making
4.1 Complete Point of Care Risk Assessment Certificate
This course went over how to complete a point-of-care risk assessment on my patients within a clinical setting. It helped to improve my problem-solving and decision-making skills by teaching me how to quickly evaluate potential hazards and make informed care adjustments in real time. It also helped me to identify safety concerns, prioritize actions, and adapt strategies to prevent harm while maintaining efficiency.
4.2 Overdose Prevention Certificate
This course increased my knowledge of how to assist in the prevention of overdoses. This improved my problem-solving and decision-making skills by equipping me with the ability to recognize overdose risks, respond effectively in crisis situations, and administer life-saving interventions. This course also helped to strengthen my critical thinking by teaching rapid assessment of symptoms, appropriate use of reversal agents like naloxone, and communication strategies for guiding patients and families through prevention efforts.
4.3 Harm Reduction 101 Understanding Harm Reduction Principles and Practices Certificate
This course, Harm Reduction 101: Understanding Harm Reduction Principles and Practices, provided a foundational understanding of harm reduction strategies and their application in the workplace. I learned about key principles, practical tools, and evidence-based approaches used to minimize risk and support individuals in a non-judgmental and compassionate manner, particularly in healthcare and community settings.
Appendix 5 – Numeracy
5.1 Intro to the Transfusion Administration Record Certificate
This course gave me an introduction to how to properly record transfusion administration via IV infusion. This course improved my numeracy abilities by strengthening my skills in calculating, documenting, and verifying transfusion-related data. It also helped to enhance my accuracy in measuring blood volumes, monitoring infusion rates, and interpreting lab values to ensure safe administration.
5.2 Biological Agents 2 Certificate
This certification course went over handling biological agents and covered a range of topics to ensure safety and compliance in environments where biohazardous materials are present. This course helped to improve my numeracy abilities by strengthening my understanding of dosage calculations, infection control measurements, and risk assessments related to biohazards. It also helped to improve my skills in interpreting lab values, monitoring exposure thresholds, and calculating appropriate precautions based on pathogen levels.
5.3 Insulin Safety Competency Certificate
This course went over the dangers and risks that come with handling insulin and how I can promote the safe usage of this medication. I have taken this course multiple times just as a refresh on my knowledge of dosage calculations, etc.
5.4 Medication Reconciliation Certificate
In this medication reconciliation course, I learned how to accurately and safely manage patients’ medications as they move between different care settings. The training helped me understand the importance of verifying medication histories, identifying any discrepancies, and ensuring continuity of care to prevent errors and keep patients safe.
5.5 Medication Management Certificate
In this medication management certification course, I gained the skills and knowledge needed to optimize medication use and improve patient outcomes. The course covered important topics such as pharmacology and therapeutics, patient assessment, educating patients about their medications, and properly documenting all related information.
Appendix 6 – Critical and Creative Thinking
6.1 Aboriginal Cultural Safety Certificate
I learned how to communicate effectively and respectfully with the Aboriginal population, who are an important part of the community we serve at the hospital. This course broadened my understanding of their culture and taught me how to honor and respect their traditions and perspectives while providing care.
6.2 The Aboriginal Landscape Certificate
This course continued to expand my knowledge of the Aboriginal community and my understanding of Indigenous perspectives, histories, and healthcare practices. It encouraged analytical thinking through the examination of systemic barriers, traditional healing methods, and cultural safety principles. The training helped me to foster creative problem-solving by challenging conventional approaches and inspiring innovative care strategies that align with Indigenous values.
6.3 Differing Perspectives on Health and Wellness Through a Cultural Lens Certificate
This course went over potential biases that I may have come into nursing with and how to look at all different perspectives when it comes to different cultures we may encounter within a clinical setting. It helped to enhance my critical and creative thinking skills by deepening my understanding of diverse healthcare beliefs and practices.
6.4 Colonization as a Social Determinant of Health Certificate
Through this certification, I gained a deeper understanding of how colonization has significantly impacted social determinants of health for many populations, and how these effects influence their access to healthcare services. This knowledge has helped me better appreciate the challenges faced by these communities and the importance of providing equitable care.

Appendix 7 – Independent Learning and Intellectual Maturity
7.1 Scope of Practice for Nurses in Wound Care Certificate
In this course, I learned which types of wounds I am authorized to care for as an LPN and when it is necessary to seek additional support from other healthcare professionals. I completed this training on my own time because I believe it is essential to clearly understand the scope of practice for LPNs across different nursing specialties.
7.2 How Wounds Heal Certificate
This course provided me with a detailed understanding of the wound healing process. I chose to complete it on my own time because I find wound care particularly interesting and valuable to my nursing practice.
7.3 Negative Pressure Wound Therapy Certificate
In this course, I learned about Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT), including its purpose, how to properly use and set up the necessary equipment, and best practices for managing wounds that require this treatment. Although the course is not mandatory, I believe it is essential for all LPNs to take. Completing this training has enabled me to confidently manage more complex wounds and assist fellow nurses on the unit who have not yet received this specialized education.
7.4 Care of Wounds with Non-Visible Wound Bed Certificate
This certification focused on managing complex wounds that extend beyond the wound bed, such as tunneling wounds. These types of wounds require specialized care, and the course equipped me with the knowledge and skills to properly assess and treat them when encountered in practice.
Appendix 8 – Applied Knowledge and Skills
8.1 Specialty Slings Certificate
In this course, I learned how to properly use various types of slings, including wire rope slings, synthetic web slings, alloy chain slings, and synthetic round slings. We also covered the specific applications and advantages of each type, which has helped me select and utilize the most appropriate sling for different lifting and rigging tasks.
